Why Upgrade a PC?
With PC prices so low, what is the point in upgrading
when you may as well buy new? After all, you can get
so much more kit for your money these days.
Well, there are some compelling reasons why an upgrade
is often the most cost-effective way to increase the
power of your PC.
The Environment
In this throwaway society we all need to be more aware
of where our waste goes and where our new 'consumable'
items come from. Looking after this small planet is
our responsibility - everything we do has a price to
pay somewhere and for someone. Maybe not us - but our
children, and their children.
For this reason a simple upgrade can avoid much non-renewable
resources being used in the production of a new PC and
the disposal of an old PC.
Memory is Cheap
There are so many PCs out there that are quite literally
crippled by a simple lack of memory. By doubling the
amount of memory from, say, 32Mbyte to 64Mbyte or 128Mbyte
a vast performance gain can be achieved. This is often
the most cost-effective way to upgrade a PC and only
takes a few minutes to do.
A New PC Can Do So Much More
Well, sort of. Even older PCs can do much the same
as the newer PCs - only a little slower. If you are
not playing the latest 3D games, if you are just writing
documents and surfing the Internet, then do you need
the latest multi-gigahertz super-multimedia PC with
yet another bungled printer and scanner? Are you throwing
good money after features that you do not need?
If £500 will buy you a computer that is four
times more powerful than the computer you have today,
then imagine what that same £500 would buy you
in 12 months time after squeezing another year out of
your current PC.
Yes, sometimes a PC is just too old
Technology moves on and hardware just becomes incompatible
with the latest devices. This means eventually you cannot
realistically upgrade an older PC. If you are happy
to just use it for word processing then carry on.
If you want a new PC then we will be happy to give
you advice. Just send
us an e-mail or fill out our form, letting us know
what PC you have at present, what you use it for and
what you would like to use your new PC for. We will
be able to give you pointers towards what you need to
be looking for as a replacement.
There are charities that will take your old PC off
your hands. We will put you in touch with one of these
locally if you wish.
